Finding Fanny

Sometimes the entire plot of a movie is in the title. Movies are termed 'different' by every actor usually. Sometimes melodrama can ruin the movie when it isn't required. (Mary Kom, anyone? )
But Finding Fanny is none of that!

This movie lives right upto your expectations. You go in expecting a comedy movie and come out after watching a really different, lively comedy movie. It is a laugh riot - you will enjoy it through and through - I did. Will watch it again this week most likely.

Now for the best parts. The cast!
Every character is well thought out of. Endearing. Multi-faceted. Evolving. In short, very real.

Naseeruddin Shah is brilliant. Period. The characters come together and set out to find his Fanny, his love who he's waited for for 46 years because a letter he had written back then wasn't posted at all to her. He manages to keep the child-like innocence all through the movie without coming across as stupid, even though he's supposed to be a 60+ year old in the movie.

Pankaj Kapoor is amazing. You expect him to be a con artist throughout, find him borderlining to evoking disgust - which is what his character was supposed to make us feel, yet in a final scene he does prove himself to be the 'artist' who was really just following his muse.

Deepika Padukone is beautiful, she has been evolving as an actress and this is probably her best act so far.
Arjun Kapoor does ok as the angry young man. I am still unsure of him as an actor. In my head he is this guy who has this controlled poker face and only allows emotions to show through sometimes. Or maybe he's just another John Abraham. That remains to be seen.
Dimple Kapadia with her obviously padded fanny, is the town's Lok Kalyan trust(LKT) always helping out. (Mostly when it isn't needed.)

The characters are all very real and blend into the plot effortlessly. I had a great time watching the movie after a really long time.
The only 'issue' I found was, the movie is set in goa, but the accent doesn't come off as Goan.
But otherwise, definitely a must watch!

Have you watched the movie yet? What did you think of it?

PS: The picture isn't mine. Google helped me find it.

The Butterfly Effect

Finally watched No Strings Attached. Sometimes even when you know the whole story and how it would end, you watch it, just for somebody you like. Watch it if you like him- You know, Him. :P (Ashton Kutcher for the clueless) Guys wouldn't like it- so you can stay away. Or maybe you can watch it for a few laughs.. Or watch it for me. And increase his fan following. Just saying.

But everyone can go watch The Butterfly Effect for sure. Awesome Awesome movie. Centered around the Chaos Theory, the movie sort of goes into these parallel universes that would have existed if you had changed that one teeny-tiny detail of that particular moment.
I'm sure all of us have at some point in life wished, "If only I could go back in time and change something, things would have been so different." This movie takes that to a whole new level. Maybe things are just meant to be the way they are. Maybe you should let everything fall into place. Things happen for a reason. And if you try to change that, you might not like the consequences. Vo kehte hain na, jo bhi hota hai acche ke liye hota hai, bilkul sahi kehte hain ;)

Snow Day - Very random post

So it snowed like crazy here and was home, cooking most of the day. I enjoy cooking.

Watched Dhobi Ghat. I think it's not what most Indian cinema goers would want to pay and watch. I thought it was interesting, but again, was it because I am not in India that I didn't really mind watching the Mumbai streets and the emotions? Probably not. It had more to do with the emotions than anything else. You'd like it better if you don't watch it with a group of friends. And it somehow reinforced the feeling of Karma- I totally believe in it. What goes around comes around.

Watched the Social network.  The locations were very familiar. :) Been there done that sorts. The story was very gripping. Nicely made and told. When it ended, I was like, "Heyyyy! Why did you stop?!"

It is creepy when your room-mate who's asleep talks in her sleep and your still awake listening to it. Can be embarrassing sometimes too. ;)

I told you it is random!

Movies and TV shows

I'm totally hooked onto this series - Modern Family.. OMG it is hilarious!
Atleast from what I've seen so far..

Just watched No one killed Jessica. Made me read more about the case and the offenders. I can't believe the kind of people that live in the world. I mean you get all kinds. But these guys are just beyond belief.
Coming to the movie, I thought Rani was so not the one for the role she  played. I mean the language does not come easily to her and it sounded so wannabe. Priyanka Chopra would have been a better fit. Or Preity maybe?

Wondering what Bharati Yadav  had to go through/going_through.. She's probably killed herself a thousand times for that one lie.

Watched The Green Hornet. Was skeptical about watching it in the beginning because of the "Crime" and "thriller" tags attached to it on imdb. But it turned out to be a comedy- very unexpected but totally fun. The last part was a bit of a drag but otherwise I laughed out aloud so many times! A must-watch if you ask me.

Watching Prison Break. I know it's a little late, but I'm living/loving it. I got a little too carried away and actually cried in one of the episodes. :D Robin Tunney's acting disappoints me though. I mean whenever she's on-screen I'm looking for flaws in her. I don't know why but I can't stop. I enjoy it thoroughly ;)
Oh and Wentworth Miller's character is so awesome. Kinda close to my idea of the "dream guy". I want to know how he is in real life. Go on a date with him maybe. Tried looking online but couldn't find stuff about his gf. Is he gay? I hope not.

And I wanna watch No strings attached. I like Ashton Kutcher. His comic timing is perfect. Plus, he is damn good-looking.

Going the Distance - Review/Experience

It is a feel good movie. Watch it with your gf/bf. Both of you will feel good.

I watched it with a couple of girls. All of whom had had a break-up or were in a long-distance relationship. Lol! Not the best company to watch the movie with!
By the end of the movie two of them were almost crying! Sha. Had to cheer them up with gooey chocolate brownie. So that was the background info.

As far as the story goes it's pretty predictable. They meet at a bar/gaming center and realize they have a lot in common. She's on an internship at NY. While he works at NY for a music company. After 6 weeks of going out, it's time for the intern to move back to LA. A lot of factors come into picture. The distance, the difference in time-zones, the missing physical proximity. A few surprise visits. Funny fantasies(?). Trying to make up for the lack of sex. Trying to do everything together, even after the distance.
Even after all the adjustments, even when they themselves are happy with the whole set-up, it's the people around who cause the most damage. Friends and family bring in the insecurities of being in a long-distance.

How do you know he's not cheating on you? How do you know he is doing what he says he is doing. These are some of the questions they raise.
Jealousy.
Important decisions to make.
Priorities: Career or love?
And the inevitable happens- they break up.
But in the end love prevails. And they're back together!
Oh these movies! Make you believe anything is possible.

Harry Potter and the Half-blood prince! Yeah, right.

Just saw HP-6. Before I start about how pathetic it was, let me give you a run-up to the time before we actually sat and watched the nightmare unfold. So much we did for one shitty movie! What a waste :(
We were all excited about the movie. Booked the tickets, like, 3 days in advance. It was the first time we booked tickets online,so we didn't know we had to collect tickets from the counter. I thought only the print out of the confirmation would do.

The show was scheduled to start at about 7:45 pm.
We reached the place at 7:40..Didn't want to miss any part of it so we (my sis and I) ran like maniacs all the way up to the fifth floor(which, on looking back now, was such a waste of energy! Gosh)
Finally reached the fifth floor..only to find the movie was delayed to start at 8:15.Waited till 8:10 and gave the print out to the security. He says,"This wont do.I need tickets!" Imagine our horror. We ran back downstairs all the way to the ground floor and took the tickets at the counter. And then ran back up. 8:15!
The movie hadn't started yet. Yay!

Ok now coming to how "awesome" the movie was..The beginning was good. The first 5 mins that is. After that we kept waiting and waiting for the actual story to begin. But no. The producers wanted to make some romantic movie. Simply only they named it "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince". There was not even like,1/10th of the book in the movie.
What was the point then? You could've given it any other name. Atleast then people wouldn't be expecting any HP story, and they wouldn't have been so disappointed. Also, unless you have read the book, there is no way you would understand the movie. My parents and cousin didn't follow a thing. In fact, even we were left wondering many a times, "Which movie are we actually watching?!" It was horrible man! God, I am so disappointed and pissed off!
I hope they don't mess up the next movie like they messed this one.
