Corporate - Not the movie.

Have you ever had to talk to someone over the phone and not understood what he was saying? I'm pretty sure everybody faces such times some time or the other, especially in today's scenario, where a team meeting cannot happen without people listening in from the other time-zone.
My team-lead uses remote access to work from another State. So I only get to talk to him on the phone all the time. The first day of work, I wanted to look smart and tried really hard to understand what he was saying without having him repeating everything twice. Worked for sometime, but eventually he had to repeat stuff. To make things worse, turns out he is the one guy in office who talks the fastest of all. Psssh.
Thankfully, he drove down to the office today and I got to speak to him face-to-face. It's better this way for sure. More about him: He has to be on the move all the time. Doesn't stick to one place for long. One time he was talking about "his puppies" and used the singular  "him/he". Turns out he was talking about the bits of code that he wrote!  He's a funny guy. Except that I don't get his jokes. I would have, if only he was a little slower. But not to take anything away from him, he repeats stuff whenever I ask..I am learning something everyday and the good thing is I am being noticed.

Apart from that, I kinda hate these team lunches: Even though everyone's sitting on the same table, they're all broken up into these small groups where they talk invariably about the code that was troubling them or the bug that they fixed. The ONE time everyone's out, and they still have to talk about the same stuff. Not that there aren't people who consciously avoid talking about work, but the majority of the crowd falls in the other category.

The best part is, when you get your first salary! It makes you spend on all kind of things at the mall, which you eventually will get bored of (I am already bored) but still, shopping is shopping! I know, sometimes, I contradict myself..But then again who doesn't?

Thank God It's Friday~~NOT!

Just a week of work and I can see my whole life in front of me. Right now I have 5 days of work + cooking + living with a room-mate.  Later, all of this + A dog + kids! Too much to handle I say.
Sometimes I feel why are we even living? I mean, for what?
The past week's been crazy. 6 am to 6 pm. And then cook and stuff and it's 10 pm- time to sleep, if I want to be able to get out of bed the next morning. My dad would have been so proud of me right now ;) 10 pm is when he would want me to sleep during Engineering. But things don't happen like you want them to.

Was waiting for today. Friday. But what I had planned to do with my roomie didn't happen because....hold your breath...she wanted to watch Splitsvilla. SPLITSVILLA, for crying out loud! I'm giving her the silent treatment. But this state is not gonna last for long. Knowing me, the words are gonna spill over anytime now. I hate it when people cancel plans for shit reasons. Trying to divert my mind by blogging.
Any suggestions to see this doesn't happen in future?

One way is to make new friends from other countries.  Atleast you know they won't be watching #$%$^$^ Splitsvilla for sure.
Another could be...not make any plans at all? Sha, that's not even an option. You have to keep going out. Keep living life even when you don't want to. It's what we're born for apparently. Live and then Die. But WHY?

Valentine's day

People don't forget the first day of work ever. 14th Feb. My first day at work today. My love for the next six months.
Got up a whole TWO hours before the time I was supposed to report to office. A huge improvement vs. the 10 mins I had in college to brush and get to class. :D
EVEN then! I don't know how two hours went by and dekhte hi dekhte I had 10 mins to get to office. :)) Some things never change. Thankfully 10 mins were enough to get to office since it is a 5 mins walk (even on high heels).
The good thing with my life, touchwood, is no matter how bad things are, in the end it all falls to place.
So I reach office in time and wait for the HR person. There were 5 other interns reporting today. And I was the best looking even here. Damn this world has to catch up with me :))
The HR person comes and checks our paper work. That took about an hour. Then we were taken to a training room. Some 3 presentations they had. For 2.5 hours! :O Bleddy. And so we shouldn't get bored, the company had got creative and instead of reading out the company's standard code of ethics, had made a movie- Yes, a MOVIE out of the whole thing. So we had like a rip-off of about 10 movies, which included car chases and guns and secret agents! But no matter how much creativity you put in, guidelines would be guidelines, you can't really change that..
After the training we were shown around to our desks, check out the picture yo! It feels so awesome to have a desk of your own. This is MY space- sorts. Then went to the Office's stores and got stuff to put on my desk. Will put up more pictures later when it is all decorated.

It was lunch time, so got home and ate Maggi and went back. My assigned mentor was out for sometime. So I went to this other guy and he gave me stuff to read, for the next two hours. Oh btw, my mentor totally looks like the teacher from King Fu Panda, Shifu. Damn cute he is. Old grandfather, sorts. Fred Uncle I call him (not in person, yet ;) )

Coming back to where we had left, I was reading up stuff for sometime.
Then at some 4 pm we had a meeting. They gave us a general overview of what the development team does. And what part I will be working on.
5.15: End of the meeting. End of the day.
Got home damn hungry and pissed. Happens when you are hungry right? Happens to me atleast. And when there is nothing to eat at home and you have to cook everything from scratch before you can eat! My room-mate and I felt we were fighting like a couple. Unhappy with what the other was cooking. Unhappy with what the other was talking! But in the end again, it all falls into place. Stomach full. Happy now. So that was my first day. Feel free to tell me what you thought about it, and/or share what you felt on your first day at work.
